Ide
Leuciscus idus
The ide (Leuciscus idus) is a freshwater fish species from the Cyprinidae family, widely distributed across European and Asian waters. It can reach lengths of up to 60 cm and weigh several kilograms. The ide has a slender body covered with large, silvery scales and a slightly compressed lateral profile. It is a predatory fish feeding mainly on smaller fish, insects, and other aquatic invertebrates. It prefers moderately fast-flowing rivers and the nearshore zones of lakes with stony or muddy bottoms. The ide is a schooling fish, often moving in groups. Spawning occurs in spring when the fish move into shallow, well-oxygenated areas with aquatic vegetation to lay eggs. Popular among anglers for its fighting spirit and attractive appearance, the ide plays an important role in freshwater ecosystems.
